2022 Children's Summer Reading Program

Theme: "Oceans of Possibilities"

Beginning June 7th, come into the library and pick up a summer reading bag containing a schedule of events, bookmark, reading log, and a sticker sheet. Sign up for SRP and receive a necklace with a tag, as well as a free book. Every week we will have a new bead for children to add to their necklace.

Aside from the events (listed below), we will also be hiding a dolphin tail in the shelves. Children who find the tail will be rewarded with a lollipop.

Story Time

Summer Story Time

10:30am - Every Wednesday, June 1 to July 27, 2022
Librarian Annie B. will read a story to young listeners and their families in front of the library fireplace. On days of pleasant weather Story Time may be moved outside.

Summer Reading Kickoff

6:00pm - June 7, 2022
Learn what the library has to offer this summer, and enjoy pizza and a performance by Powhatan High School students. Courtesy of PCPS elementary school PTOs.

Family Movie - Luca

10:30am - June 10 & 11, 2022
Families are invited stop in to watch Luca, the 2021 Pixar film about two young sea monsters who explore the human world. Luca is rated PG for rude humor, language, some thematic elements and brief violence.

3:00pm - June 13, 21, 27 & July 11, 18, 25
This craft program for children will bring out their inner pirate! Make a shark suncatcher, participate in a scavenger hunt and more! For children and their families.

Literature in the Garden

10:30am - June 14, 2022
Many wonderful children's stories celebrate the beauty of nature. This story time features gardening books and a small gardening project. It is held in conjunction with the Goochland-Powhatan Extension Office.

Jonathan the Juggler

11:00am - June 30, 2022 (PCPL) & 1:00pm (FRES)
This interactive performance will leave kids laughing as Jonathan the Juggler rides a unicycle, tells jokes, and performs magic tricks. At 1:00pm the program will be repeated at Flat Rock Elementary School.

AWARE Wildlife

1:00pm - July 7, 2022 (FRES)
Meet and learn about animal friends from AWARE Wildlife, a local wildlife rescue organization. This program will take place at Flat Rock Elementary School.
Moana

Family Movie - Moana

10:30am - July 8 & 9, 2022
Families are invited to drop in to see Moana, the 2016 Disney film about a young girl's journey to return a mystical relic and save her island. This film is rated PG for peril, some scary images and brief thematic elements.

12:45pm & 2:00pm - July 12, 2022 (FRES)
Join these mad scientists for a mind-boggling series of experiments in their new show: Spin, Pop, Boom! This program will take place at Flat Rock Elementary School.

Summer Reading Finale

Celebrate the end of Summer Reading with a free pizza dinner generously provided by the PCPL elementary school PTOs.
