Economic Development Program Manager

Position Details 
  • Compensation: Hiring range $53,000-$60,000 based on qualifications and experience
  • Hours: Full-time

Position Objectives

Powhatan County is seeking professional level support for its economic development program.  Responsibilities include technical and administrative assistance, assisting developers with project review and approval process, and coordinating activities with other county departments, including incentive packages.  In addition to leading one or more work programs in economic development activities (i.e. BRE, marketing, recruitment) the candidate will be able to work with and speak to various community and professional groups, and the media, regarding the county’s Economic Development progress. 

Desirable Training & Experience


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – Knowledge of local, state and federal laws, regulations and programs relevant to Economic Development, and the major aspects of economic development practice in a local government setting is expected.  Knowledge of the geography of Powhatan County and surrounding areas, along with the economic development opportunities of the Richmond capital region is highly desirable.  Must be able to communicate the county’s Economic Development policies effectively.

Education/Training: Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a bachelor’s degree, such as economics or business administration, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.  Relevant training and certifications in economic development is highly desirable.
